We're delighted to give you a first look at an exciting new addition to our American Civil War range - General John Buford and Staff, captured during the tense opening moments of the Battle of Gettysburg.
A Defining Moment at Gettysburg
On the morning of 1 July 1863, General John Buford's Union cavalry division was the first significant Federal force to encounter the advancing Confederate army west of Gettysburg. Recognising the importance of the high ground south of the town, Buford made the critical decision to stand and fight, delaying the Confederate advance long enough for Union infantry reinforcements to arrive.
It was a decision that would have a profound impact on the battle. Many historians regard Buford's actions that morning as one of the key factors that allowed the Union Army to secure the strong defensive positions that ultimately helped deliver victory at Gettysburg.
This new 28mm resin set depicts the famous Union cavalry commander and his staff dismounted from their horses, anxiously scanning the surrounding countryside as they search for signs of the advancing Confederate army. We've aimed to capture a dramatic and historic moment: those critical hours on 1 July 1863 when Buford's keen judgement and determination helped shape the battle that followed.
The set features General Buford accompanied by three troopers and two officers, all carefully posed to convey the uncertainty and anticipation of an enemy whose approach could come from any direction.
As with many of our recent releases, the figures have been beautifully hand sculpted by the exceptionally talented Stavros Zouliatis, whose attention to detail and character has brought this iconic scene to life.
The masters are now complete, and production will begin very soon. While the full release is still a little way off, we have secured a limited number of early production sets, which will be available for sale later this month (June). Watch this space for further details and release dates.
